I forgot to add one flower picture so here it is. It might even be my favorite flower one so far.

Funny Picture of the Day

I have found most of these pictures online, but if anyone has a funny picture I should post you can email them to me at rdaallen@yahoo.com.  I would love to have some pictures from the readers!

30 Day Challenge - Day 8

This is a picture of my roommate's cat, Yoshi.  He can be quite cute and cuddly when he's tired...

30 Day Challenge - Day 7

The next few days I think I'm going to focus my pictures on my pets and other animals.  Animals are more fun for me to photograph than still life, so it's easy for me to fall back on that when I feel like I'm in a photography rut.  Below is a picture of a cat I used to have named Pixie.

Rain Drops 30 Day Challenge - Day 6

Personally, I did not feel like going out in the storm to take pictures so instead I took pictures in my living room.  I got the idea of photographing water droplets from the weather and a blog online. I hope you enjoy the pictures!

HOPE 30 Day Challenge - Day 4

I'm only going to have one picture today because it's a game day.  This might be one of my favorite pictures yet.  I love finding the most random things to photograph.  This one was taken by a train track in Knoxville.

Funny Picture of the Day

We saw this when walking around downtown and it made us laugh.  The building in front is positioned just perfectly to cut off the rest of the title.

Downtown Knoxville: Photo Challenge - Day 3

I decided to try photographing architecture on Friday when I spent the evening downtown with my parents.  After trying to find parking and beating traffic, we finally made it downtown when the sun was about to set.  I only had a limited amount of time to photograph, so there aren't many pictures.  I am going to go back downtown sometime soon because I found some cool places to take shots, but I think I'll wait for the monsoon to pass these next few days.

Funny Picture of the Day

In Honor of the Hot Weather
I got this picture from a friend's facebook and it made me smile :)

30 Day Challenge - Day 2

Let's Get Some Shoes

I decided to continue with my inspiration of shoes.  I'm not sure how long it will last, but I'm surprisingly finding a lot of cool shots to take around campus.

When I first took this picture, I loved the vibrant colors of the trees against the very blue sky, but I decided to try it in black and white.  I think the black and white gives the photo a different mood, and I love that it brings out the play on texture.

This is a second pair of shoes right down the road from my house. I probably wouldn't have noticed the shoes if I hadn't picked this subject to photograph.

Below are two pictures from the Fort.

365 Day Photo Challenge or How About 30? - Day 1

As I was searching the web, I found a website that encourages everyone to take a picture everyday and share it.  I would love to be that ambitious and take a picture every day for a year, but I thought I would be a little more realistic and try a 30 day photo challenge.  Today, I found inspiration from a pair of my tennis shoes.

Experimenting With Letter Photography

When I first saw this type of photography at Rolex this year, I thought that this would be fairly easy to recreate.  From just looking around at the horse park, I saw many objects, horse tack, architecture, and etc. that could be seen as a letter. Well I was very wrong!! Seeing the letters in ordinary objects is only have of the work.  I soon found out after practicing at home that finding objects with a lot of contrast and color was the most difficult since I was making the letters b & w.  Here are some examples (including failed attempts):

Letter F
For the letter F picture, I did not like the contrast.  The boards were too similar in color and did not make the F pop out as much as I would have liked.

Letter O

Letter X
Letter O

Letter D

Letter E
The letter E was more has more of an artistic look, but it is hard to read.  I needed to play a little more with angles and move some of the flowers out of the way.

These are definitely not quite professional quality, but I took all the pictures on one day and at one place so I was very limited.  I decided to create ALLEN and frame the pictures for my mom on mother's day. Below was the finished project for her present.

Although my attempts were not quite up to par, I would like to try again and focus more on contrast while incorporating equine objects. If you would like to purchase a frame of your own here are some websites I found:

Rolex Three Day

Here are some pictures from previous Rolex events.  I was not able to take pictures the past couple of years so these are from a few years back.

FL Polo & Grand Prix Jumpers

During a spring break trip with my parents, we went to Wellington, FL to watch polo and a hunter/jumper show.

Keeneland Race Track

Keeneland is one of my favorite places to hang out and practice my photography.  The Thoroughbreds are well groomed and the color of the jockey's silks combined with a beautiful back drop make for unique and gorgeous photos.
